A STORY ABOUT VOLUNTEERS:
Today, they are still very much alike. All have a passion for helping
others. All will celebrate three years of volunteer service for their non
profit. And as it turns out, all work for the same company.

But there is a difference. Less than half feel appreciated by their non
profit and are still enthusiastic about volunteering. The others have never
been able to attend a volunteer recognition event and therefore feel
unappreciated and are thinking about no longer volunteering.
Why Volunteer Recognition Events Leave
Volunteers Feeling Unappreciated  
The traditional method of holding volunteer appreciation events has been
shown to be less effective for 3 reasons:
participation, cost and impact.

First, Participation: If for example, your organization has 100 volunteers
and because of people’s schedules and other commitments, 50 people
attend your volunteer appreciation event; this might be considered a
success, but that still leaves half of your volunteers unrecognized!

Second, Cost: Keeping with our example above, if you included the total
cost (staff time, venue, food, drinks, etc.) your organization could easily
spend $5,000 (which is a lot of money in these tough economic times).
That amount equals out to $100 per volunteer that was able to attend and
$0 for those who could not.

Third, Impact: The long-term impact of a good volunteer event lasts until
the following morning when they have breakfast before needing to get
back into their usual routine (okay, maybe a little longer, but not much).
How Would You Like To Recognize Every Volunteer, While
to attend and the appreciation fades by the next morning, the value of
